Fertinagro Plant In Teruel Will Reach Its Full Production Capacity Of Biofertilizers In 2022

The Fertinagro Biotech plant, located in Utrillas (Teruel) will have a production of 5,000 tons of biofertilizers - it becomes the largest biofertilizers plant in Europe - and will also produce more than one million tons of fertilizers sustainability in the plants 28 production plants of the company.

The facilities, which are expected to reach 100% of their productive capacity in 2022, have been visited by the President of Aragon, Javier Lambán, who has been accompanied by the Minister of the Presidency, Mayte Pérez; the president of the Térvalis Group, Generoso Martín, and the mayor of the town.

Fertinagro Biotech has taken a qualitative leap with the implementation of ecological biostimulants and the transformation of slurry into custom-made fertilizers, while recovering the microbiota of the soils and favoring their rapid recovery. Research that places the Aragonese company at the forefront of the most sustainable and efficient fertilizer products on the market.

During his visit, the head of the regional Executive said that Térvalis is “one of the most important economic actors in the autonomous community in the present and it will be more and more so in the future”, highlighting its ability to bring innovation and “connect with the priorities of the new economy, with the ecological and digital transition, to bring our economy to the standard parameters of the most competitive systems of the 21st century “, according to Europa Press.

In addition, Lambán has mentioned “the work that Fertinagro is beginning to develop to make African economies competitive, making them burn quick stages to settle in modernity.”

He also explained that the Minister of the Presidency of the Government of Aragon, Mayte Pérez, has promoted projects and business ideas in recent months to obtain European funds in order to modernize production activity. In this context, the Government of Aragon wants food production capacity to grow 20 percent in the coming years and reduce CO2 emissions by 50 percent and waste elements in different production processes by 40 percent.

Precisely, Lambán continued, Fertinagro is working on converting slurry into biofertilizer from microorganisms, “which will allow us to be at the forefront of solving the problem.” Lambán pointed out that European funds “are actually going to help accelerate the investment processes that would take place in any case.”

Awareness
The president of the Térvalis Group, Generoso Martín, has stated that “awareness” of climate change “begins with everyone” and has highlighted the work carried out by the Térvalis Foundation in Africa and also in Teruel to promote the capture of CO2.

He has commented that Térvalis wants to promote the start-up of nurseries to produce plants and facilitate that Teruel municipalities and companies carry out captures to capture CO2 and thus combat climate change. 50 jobs would be created.

The director of Strategic Development of the company, Sergio Atarés, explained that Fertinagro wants to “meet the demands that all consumers are demanding”, alluding to “much more ecological, sustainable” productions.

He has defended the role of fertilizers, which in recent decades have fed 4 billion people around the world. “We have to learn from nature, know its mechanisms, take advantage of them and impact less,” he said.

Regarding the slurry, Atarés has indicated that currently they are not fertilizers since “you have to balance them” and for this Fertinagro has devised a process to avoid the emission of ammonia, stabilize the slurry in the ponds and apply a biostimulant that allows to take advantage of a 30 percent more of them. “The farmers are more than sensitized,” but they lacked “the necessary tools,” Atarés continued.

On the other hand, he said that Fertinagro already has EU Horizon funds to promote seven projects, such as one to minimize the environmental impact of all European slurry and start up production facilities.

Reference in circular economy
The President of the Government of Aragon, Javier Lambán, has also stressed that the province of Teruel can be “exemplary” in terms of circular economy by giving as an example the Fertinagro Biotech plant, belonging to the Térvalis Group, in Utrillas, highlighting its project to the conversion of slurry into biofertilizers.

“The province of Teruel is called to be a Spanish reference in circular economy and bioeconomy”, has influenced Lambán, who has commented that the provincial capital will host, from November 17 to 18, a circular economy congress “that will place us prominently on the map of this very new and fundamental concept of the economy of the future. ”

Added to this is the Teruel Rural Bioeconomy Center, linked to the Aragón Agrifood Research and Technology Center (CITA) and located in Platea and the efforts made by the autonomous government with a call for aid for a total of four million euros to boost R&D.
